Our community website currently maintains a a couple of mailing lists – online spaces for us to communicate with one another. Unlike Facebook or Nexdoor, these are email discussion lists, not web-based forums. If you want to send something to everyone on the list, just email the list address. You can reply to posts to the lists either by emailing the poster, privately, or by emailing the full list, which maintains a conversation among all the list subscribers.
This has a couple of advantages. First, everything that anyone has ever posted to a list is preserved in the list’s archive, so nothing gets lost. You can easily look up what someone said in a discussion a year ago, and what others said in reply. Second, it’s always easy to find other people’s posts to a list since they’re in your own, personal email, not on a website where replies may be hidden behind “See 219 previous comments” and you have to dig down through at least a couple of layers to see what someone said yesterday.
There are some rules of etiquette which go with email lists:
- Be considerate. Be aware that everyone who’s subscribed to a list will get a copy of what you post.
- Send “thank you”s, apologies, and such privately back to the person to whom they’re directed.
- Don’t post all of, or quote part of a private reply to the entire list without permission.
Our lists are moderated, not censored. Rude, or offensive posts will not be tolerated, but if you cross the line, you’ll hear from me, and asked to be more considerate. Posts can’t be removed, since they go out to everyone as emails as soon as they’re sent, but you can be moderated (your posts will require approval before being sent to the list). As a last resort, a subscriber can be banned, and will be informed of same, but hopefully, being responsible adults, we won’t need to go there.
Our Lists …..
To subscribe to a list, follow the links below and in the “Subscribing to ….” section fill in your name (optional), your email address, and a chosen password, then press the Subscribe button. You’ll get an email asking if you really want to subscribe. Just reply to this email without changing it. Shortly thereafter, you’ll get a “Welcome” message and you’re good to go.
neighbors list is a general discussion list, with open topics much like one would find on social media. The list posting address is
neighbors@SandyCreekCommunity.org.
aqua_action list is for discussions of water issues, in particular with regard to our private water supply system, Aqua Texas. The list posting address is
aqua_action@SandyCreekCommunity.org.
Our featured picture is once again the Round Mountain Community Center. This Community center is for all the residents of our extended neighborhood to use for events of all sort - weddings, parties, classes, meetings, etc.
