Watch our progress!

We hope to save and renovate both the old and new parts of the building. Plans for the interior include

  • A small library (books have already been pledged)
  • A wood burning stove for heating and fans for summer cooling
  • Fully handicap-accessable restrooms
  • Flourescent electric lighting
Along with plans to make the building a useful community resurce for today's residents goes a strong commitment to preserve the spirit and general look and feel of the old school building which served the local community for so many years. Care is being taken to replace the siding, where necessary, with old milled wood siding similar to that used when the building was rebuilt in 1929. A nature trail through the nearby woods is also planned, and care is being taken to preserve as many of the trees and shrubs around the building as possible.

The back of the building.
The interior has been cleared
and leveling of the foundations
has begun in February of 1998.

The interior of the building in
February of 1998. All the old
plaster has been cleared showing
the still-solid structure of the
building.

This brick chimney once served
one of the wood burning stoves
which kept the building warm.
The large hole at the bottom was
used to clean out soot and ashes.

Donated lumber being delivered.
Most of the work planned will
be done using donated materials
and volunteer labor.

The day's work crew. General
support from the community
has been strong. Work on
leveling the foundation can be
seen on this corner of the building.

Another shot of the interior
of the building. The newer section,
on the left, was built to lower
standards than the older main section
and will need considerable work.
Minor fire damage is visible on
the far wall and ceiling.
