The NRCC provides the communities in northwest Travis County with family and health services, including:
- limited financial help with rent, food, or other expenses for residents having a financial crisis (267-3245).
- medical, dental, and prescription assistance for income-eligible residents with medical clinic cards; appointments and walk-ins when available (267-3245). Non-eligible residents can get medical services on a sliding fee scale.
- immunizations, family planning, and HIV testing and counseling (267-3256).
- Meals-on-Wheels (476-MEALS). An emergency food pantry with limited food items is available every three months for those not receiving food stamps.
- WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program, nutrition and breast-feeding classes, free immunizations, and counseling for pregnant and new mothers with infants and children up to age five (267-3256).
- transportation to and from doctors' appointments and other needs for a fee Monday-Friday (478-RIDE).
- a senior luncheon program 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for ages 60 and above (267-3245).
- cost-effective weatherization assistance to low-income, elderly, and handicapped residents (267-3245).
- Alcoholic Anonymous meetings every Tuesday, 8-9 p.m.
- aerobic exercise classes MWF (267-3245).
- youth activities (movies, games, field/swim trips and parties) for school-age children (267-3245).
- information and referral services for anyone looking for an agency or program (267-3245).
The NRCC also participates in or sponsors various holiday activities, a Community Appreciation Dinner, and community festivals-this year it's the "Hairy Man Festival." Funds raised from events go to NRCC programs and services. See Community Calendar (front page) for details of upcoming events.
Belinda Angoori, LSW, is the supervisor, Malinda Galley is in charge of senior services, and Janet Newman, R.N., supervises the health clinic staff. The NRCC has a volunteer board of trustees. LaDelle Tuley is the board vice-chairperson in charge of outreach to area communities.
