Community Happy Anniversaries to Judy and David Picciandra, married l9 years on Oct. 19; to Larry and Christine Craighead for their October anniversary; and to Jan and Jim Calkins married 38 years on Oct. 31 (they each say that they got tricked and the other got the treat!). Community Congratulations to new grandparents Jesse and Margie Bennight with grandson Jazpir Logan Storm Bennight born Oct. 21 at eight pounds and 20 inches. Jazpir joins two-year-old sister Jessica Jazman Dawn. Momma Misty and family are all doing fine. Also congratulations to David and Judy Picciandra who are new grandparents to John Eldridge Picciandra born to John and Jaimie on All Souls Day, Oct. 31, at 11:43 a.m. in Houston. John Eldridge joins two-year-old brother Brandon, and all are doing fine. Have you noticed our new community business, Name-less Novelties, which opened Oct. 1? It is located at 22657-A Nameless Road, next to Calkins Country Store. The store is great for gifts, featuring jewelry; magnetic nose and lip studs, toe rings, candles, black lights, tie-dyes, handmade beaded jewelry (my favorite), video rentals, and more. Nameless Novelties is open afternoons Monday-Saturday. For more info, call 259-4655 or drop by and look around the store. Included in this newsletter is an insert for Rainbow House, announcing a one-of-a-kind service tending sick children, aged 12 months to 12 years, while parents work. For more information, call the phone numbers on the insert. The second insert, provided by a concerned Sandy Creek resident, Nancy Heeren, talks about the "Y2K" (Year 2000) computer problem. If you haven't heard about this potentially widespread problem, Nancy's flyer is a good place to start. And her suggestions make good sense for general disaster planning, too, especially for rural areas like ours.
The Hill Country Singers are having their popular annual Fall/Christmas Concert at Lago Vista Middle School's Viking Hall on Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 (for details, see Community Calendar). The group is composed of members from this and other nearby communities. Their two-hour program includes Scottish and Yiddish folk songs, Broadway, old favorites, pop, and a large assortment of Christmas songs. It is a well-received seasonal event enjoyed by everyone. For information, contact Ginger, 267-1628, or Jane, 259-6851.
